Vineyard and olive grove at Montalto

The Property John & Wendy Mitchell, the owners of Montalto, recognise how lucky they are with the beauty and bounty their stunning 50 acre amphitheatre property provides. They are committed to sharing their fortunes with others, from the view that strikes you as you enter the property to the final product on your plate and in your glass.

Montalto is dedicated to working towards sustainability and self-sufficiency. This means more than growing grapes for their premium cool climate wines and producing extraordinary food in their restaurant. It is a dedication to freshness, naturalness and seasonality.

Extensive kitchen gardens, berry garden, fruit and nut grove, olive grove and vines all play a part in ensuring Montalto can offer the best and freshest seasonal produce, grown in a sensitive manner. Whatever they don’t grow, they source locally where possible, choosing suppliers who share their values and dedication to quality.

The Restaurant Led by renowned chef James Redfern, the restaurant at Montalto is committed to producing provincial cuisine to the highest standard. Montalto, having held a Chef’s Hat in its two years of opening, and described as “the Peninsula’s best” by a number food & wine writers, is a not to be missed dining opportunity.

Lunch can be enjoyed daily at Montalto with dinner on Friday and Saturday.

The Piazza Enjoy Montalto-inspired tapas every weekend in the piazza and kitchen gardens. A way to experience the ambience and beauty of Montalto in a casual setting. During the cooler months the piazza will be covered and heated.

Picnics For those looking for a more private experience, gourmet picnic hampers specially prepared by the restaurant will be delivered to one of 4 picnic locations booked in advance. While away the afternoon sipping the estate wines or check out the extensive bird life in the wetlands.

Wine & Oil No visit to Montalto is complete without tasting the award winning, estate grown Montalto and Pennon Hill wines. Classic cool climate varieties such as Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling sit along side a sensual Rosé and a delicious Sauvignon Blanc.

Whilst you are in the cellar door chatting to the friendly and well-informed staff, try the olive oil and other estate products – a learning experience in themselves as well as a great compliment to the wines.
