002 www.visitor.com.au 111 003 Cellar Door for three of the Peninsula s favourite Vignerons Enjoy the heritage of an original general store with a new offer for visitors and locals to enjoy.
Merricks House Restored Now exhibiting Mirka Mora for April and May 2013 Mirka Mora paintings and limited edition prints to view in the original Merricks House.
Her paintings hung are a mixture from the 70 s through to 2012.
The country house with the soft light of the sea and the trees makes this intimate exhibition space a very special place to view this very special woman s work.
Three vignerons with deep ties to the Peninsula converted the Merricks General Store into their Cellar Door where you can taste the full range of their endeavours.
The store has two dining rooms and decks offering breakfast and lunch as well as a produce store.
Elgee Park focuses on classic French style wines, their sparkling wines esteemed for their finesse due to aging on yeast lees in the bottle for a minimum of 3 years.
Their vineyard was the first on the Peninsula and is high on a hill overlooking Port Phillip Bay.
For Cabernet lovers, you will be discovering that once the Peninsula was renowned for Cabernet.
Elgee Park Cabernet Merlot Blend is currently the 2009 vintage deep chewy wine of those fine astringent digestive tannins that are therapy for your heart and your stomach please try a glass with our steaks for lunch.
Elgee Park Cabernet Merlot is very limited, with very small crops due to vine age and the old fashioned planting material.
Baillieu range of wines includes their generously flavoured Pinot Noir and Shiraz.
Samantha Charlie Baillieu s vineyard is located on a sunny hill.
Above the vineyard is the bush that collects the water for the Bulldog and Tubbarubba Creeks.
The bush is an important part of conservation for the peninsula, as well as providing shelter from the cold sea winds and nutrition for the soil.
The Shiraz is just below the bush, where the soil is lightest, avoiding any vigour problems.
There are three Pinot Noir blocks which assist with the complexity of the wine.
Quealy s wines are as unique in their styles as they are in their approach to grape growing and winemaking.
Try their 17 Rows Pinot Noir for something serious or their range of late harvest muscats for a new taste of the Peninsula and sweet wines.
Autumn rings in the changes for the bistro s menu.
May is the month of wild foraged mushrooms in dishes and platters so suitable for Pinot Noirs and Pinot Gris.

Once a local general store, this heritage building has been converted into a lively bistro, cellar door and produce store by three of the Peninsula s most loved vignerons Quealy, Elgee Park and Baillieu.
The cellar door offers tastings and sales of the three brands...

Elgee Park Cabernet Merlot is very limited, with very small crops due to vine age and the old fashioned planting material.
Baillieu range of wines includes their generously flavoured Pinot Noir and Shiraz, their bright Baillieu Brut and their cult Ros .
There are three Pinot Noir blocks, which assist with the complexity of the wine.
Ballieu wines are made by Kathleen Quealy, at her Balnarring Vineyard winery.
Quealy s wines are as unique in their styles as they are in their approach to grape growing and winemaking.
Serious Pinot lovers gravitate towards the 17 Rows Pinot Noir, a dark and broody wine, with a complex palate assisted by its considerable vine age.
Fans of Italian styles of wine are spoilt by Quealy, with Nebbiolo, Amphora Friulano and Muscat Rouge Petits Grains on offer.
The bistro is always bustling, offering breakfast, lunch and snacks from 9am to 5pm daily.
Chris Roberts heads the kitchen, and runs a menu of modern country style cuisine, heavily featuring Peninsula produce and seafood.
The cakes cabinet is bursting with housemade treats.
Frangipani tart, generous carrot cake, Italian chocolate torte and luscious lemon meringue pots feature regularly on the always rotating selection.
Merricks House is our newsest venture this 1920s dwelling was refurbished in 2012 for use as a gallery space.
The house was this year awarded a Mornington Peninsula Heritage award for Creative Re-Use of a Heritage Place.
The gallery is free to enter and is open seven days from 9am to 5pm featuring exhibitions from established and emerging artists from across Australia.
Before you leave you can pop over to our produce store and pick up local cheese, chocolate and housemade condiments to compliment your wines or perhaps just some bread and milk to get you through the day.
