TOP GOLD IN LONDON FOR MORNINGTON PENINSuLA PINOT NOIR 2012 Circe Hillcrest Road Pinot Noir has won a gold medal at the newly launchedThe Drinks Business Pinot Noir Masters competition in London.
A tough tasting panel comprising eight Masters of Wine MW awarded 2012 Circe Hillcrest Road Pinot Noir one of only a small handful ofgold medals - the only gold medal awarded toAustralia in the entire competition.
This tremendous result means a lot for us and hopefully is a further boost for theMornington Peninsula, to be getting suchgreat recognition on the global playing field.
We believe that the Mornington Peninsula is an ideal region for growing high quality Pinot Noir.
By chasing the coldest sites available and embracingwhole bunch fermentation, we are getting close to achieving the balance, perfumeand complexity that makes Pinot Noir socompelling.
With this result on the back of a Gold for our 2012 Circe Pinot Noir at the 2013 Royal Melbourne Wine Show, hopefully this will further build the excitement around high quality Mornington Peninsula and Australian Pinot Noir Dan Buckle, Winemaker, Circe Established in 2010 on the Mornington Peninsulaby Dan Buckle Chief Winemaker at Domain Chandon and Aaron Drummond Yering Station Mount Langi Ghiran , Circe is aiming to berecognised as one of the Mornington Peninsula s top estates, and has now expanded to 3 smallvineyards in Red Hill.
While Dan and Aaron both grew up on the Mornington Peninsula they have spent most oftheir wine careers far away from the Peninsula, including Champagne, Burgundy, the Rhone Valley, the Grampians and the Yarra Valley.
The name Circe comes from Homer s Odyssey and was a nice analogy for Pinot Noir.
Circe was a beautiful seductress, but like mostbeautiful women could be very dangerous We believe Pinot Noir should be pretty and seductive, but if you get it wrong in the vineyardit can be ugly.
In the cellar we use traditional Burgundian techniques like whole bunch fermentation, which helps us achieve moreperfumed, medium bodied and aromatic wines.
