BALNARRING

Balnarring's recent residential growth and retail development belies its history and the fact that it offers one of Western Port's attractive and largely unspoilt beaches.

The Land Bill of the 1860s opened-up large areas of land for selection. The original settlement began when Warrawee Homestead functioned not only as a residence but also the post office and small general store.

Today's commercial sector provides a wide range of services and facilities. Nearby Balnarring Beach rose to prominence during the 1920s-30s and particularly with the growing car ownership of the 1950s. Its two small bay beaches with views to Flinders and Phillip Island has ensured it has retained its popularity over the years.
